Kerry Foods has expanded its Strings & Things Yollies range with Frollies, chilled fruit smoothies on sticks.
Launching into Tesco this week, the NPD (rsp: £1.75/four-pack) was described as a “first of its kind” by the supplier. A further rollout across grocery, convenience and wholesale will take place next month.
The product contributes to a child’s 5 a day and contains no added sugar. It is made using fruit purees combined with fibre, rice starch and other natural gelling agents derived from plants, Kerry said. This ensured the lollies were firm enough to hold their shape, it added – making them perfect for kids’ lunchboxes and on-the-go.
Each Frollies pod also contains “quirky” challenges or quiz questions “to bring some fun back into lunchboxes this summer”.
Frollies will be supported by a £1m campaign across TV, VOD, digital & in-store to coincide with the return of schools in September. The ad will “highlight the product’s role as a family-friendly solution as parents search for healthy yet fun snacks for kids”, Kerry said. The new Frollies offered retailers the opportunity to ‘age-up’ and diversify their current kids snacking fixture, targeting a slightly older demographic, it added.
“The new launch is an exciting development to the way kids snack and is evidence of our commitment to innovating in the category – helping to make kids’ snacking fun,” said Becky Youseman, senior brand manager for Strings & Things.
The £5.5m Yollies brand had seen a 15% increase in value sales since the start of 2021 [IRI Total Kids Yoghurt Market 24 w/e 16 May] and was already a popular lunchbox staple amongst younger children, Kerry said.
The launch will be supported by a £1m marketing campaign across TV, VOD, digital & in-store. Airing over the key back-to-school period in September, the ad will “highlight the product’s role as a family-friendly solution as parents search for healthy yet fun snacks for kids”, Kerry said.
