Kopparberg is hoping to challenge the dominance of Strongbow Dark Fruit with the off-trade debut of Kopparberg Black.
The cider (4% abv), which launched into the on-trade last year, will hit retail over the coming weeks, launching in Morrisons from 8 April and Asda from 25 April, as well as wholesalers and independents (rsp: £6/4x440ml, £15/10x440ml).
The drink itself is an apple cider with “bursts of blackberry and blackcurrant”, said Kopparberg, which could “provide the ideal solution for socialising with friends this summer, as the nation looks forward to embracing warm weather - from back gardens and parks to festival campsites and after-work barbecues”.
“As the dark fruit category grows, as well as consumer demand for premium alternatives, we wanted to offer a credible solution to consumers who choose to drink Kopparberg for its superior taste and flavour,” said Kopparberg head of marketing Rob Salvesen.
