Lidl UK has confirmed the appointment of Tim Henry as operations director.
Henry, who has held various senior positions at the discounter over the past nine years, replaces Conor Boyle, who has been promoted to managing director of Lidl Sweden.
Henry will oversee Lidl UK’s ambitious expansion plans for 2013, which include creating over 1,000 new jobs and opening an additional 30-35 new stores.
The value of food discounters, including Lidl and Aldi, will increase by 96.3% over the next five years as price weary UK consumers increasingly shop for bargains, according to IGD.
A Lidl spokeswoman recently told The Grocer: “More and more shoppers are turning to Lidl [over the big four] for their weekly shop when they discover the huge savings that they can make without compromising on quality.”
Lidl maintained a record market share of 3.1% for the 12 weeks ending 18 August, as sales grew 14.9% [Kantar Wordpanel].
