Lucky Saint has unveiled its own take on Radler, a 0.5% abv Lemon Lager, ahead of summer.
The NPD combines the brand’s original Superior Unfiltered Lager with “a squeeze of lemon juice” and is left unfiltered “for maximum flavour and body”.
It contains natural ingredients and weighs in at 80 calories and 5g sugar per 330ml can.
The drink will hit Tesco (rsp: £6/4x330ml) and Lucky Saint’s webstore on 31 March, followed by additional retailers on 21 April.
“Since 1922, Radler, or shandy as it’s become known in the UK, has been providing an alternative to lager and soft drinks on those occasions that call for pure refreshment,” said Lucky Saint founder Luke Boase.
Lemon Lager offered “a modern take on this classic drink”, Boase added.
It is Lucky Saint’s second diversification beyond its core 0.5% abv lager, preceded by the rollout of Hazy IPA in 2023.
Hazy IPA had been “amazing for us, particularly in grocery”, Boase told The Grocer.
“It’s allowed us to reach more consumers and been almost entirely incremental from our perspective.”
Hazy IPA launched into the on-trade last summer and had since been “really gathering momentum”, said Boase.
Lemon Lager was tipped to be just as, or more, successful than Hazy IPA, having already secured “30% more distribution than Hazy IPA [had] when it launched”, Boase added.
It joins a raft of fruity beers to hit Tesco shelves this month in a major shakeup of the retailer’s range.
BrewDog has launched a 3.4% abv Peach variant of its Cold Beer exclusively into the retailer, while Beavertown has secured Tesco listings for its new “easy-drinking” Berry Punch and Watermelon Punch beers (both 4.0% abv).
Brooklyn Brewery has launched three limited-edition beers, including Playa De Brooklyn Lime Lager (4.8% abv), into the supermarket.
