Italian cheesemaker Galbani is giving dieting consumers more options in the cheese aisle with a lighter alternative to traditional mascarpone.
Its Santa Lucia Mascarpone Light is made using the same process as the full fat version, which Galbani said gave it a sweeter profile than other mascarpones on the market.
The reduced fat variant is ideal for use in low fat versions of classic Italian dishes such as Tiramisu, it said.
Stephanie Shakibai, Galbani marketing manager, said: “As the health debate concerning obesity continues, consumers will increasingly demand healthier alternatives to standard products. Mascarpone Light is a simple way for them to reduce the fat content in their recipes without compromising on taste.”
Available in a 250g tub, the product has an rsp of £1.49.
