The Big Food Group has recruited Andy Clarke, group retail director of Matalan, as managing director of Iceland.
Clarke’s appointment means current MD Mike Coupe will leave the company earlier than previously announced.
In its third quarter trading statement, BFG said Coupe would leave in September (The Grocer, January 10, p10). But the group said Clarke would assume his post on April 26 and Coupe would resign from the board after Clarke’s induction finishes on May 28. The next step for Coupe, who joined Iceland in late 2001 having been trading director at Asda, is not known.
Iceland said Clarke had wide experience in food retailing for Asda and Morrisons. He gained considerable knowledge of supply chain operations as head of systems integration for Asda.
