Ken McMeikan, retail director at Sainsbury's, has left the supermarket chain to become chief executive officer at high street baker Greggs.

McMeikan, who has been on sabbatical from Sainsbury's since January, will take up his new role in June.

Sainsbury's supply chain director Roger Burnley will take on McMeikan's responsibilities in the newly created combined role of retail and logistics director.

“This move will allow us to continue to improve the performances of both our stores and depots, ensuring we deliver an even better service to our customers,” said CEO Justin King.
