Michael Gidney is the new CEO of the Fairtrade Foundation.

Gidney, who took up the role this week, has been acting CEO since July, when Harriet Lamb left the foundation after 10 years to head Fairtrade International.

He joined the foundation in 2009 as deputy executive director, and also served on its board between 2002 and 2008. He began his career as a teacher in Kenya, going on to work for various NGOs in Africa.

“Mike demonstrated exceptional knowledge of the Fairtrade sector and put forward powerful ideas about the role of the Fairtrade Foundation, now and in the future,” said David Clayton-Smith, chair of the foundation’s board.
