Dairy Crest has recalled two date codes of whole British milk six-pinters sold through the Morrisons and Budgens’ Supervalu own-label ranges over concerns they may have been contaminated with cleaning fluid during production.
A notice posted yesterday (29 October) on the FSA website stated the recall of six-pint packs of milk with use by dates of 5 November 2014 and 7 November 2014 was precautionary, but warned customers not to consume the milk and return it to stores for a refund.
Dairy Crest said a small number of customers had complained of a chemical taste in milk produced at its Foston site.
“Extensive investigations by the site team have identified the specific issue that has occurred which caused contamination of the milk with cleaning fluids,” added a spokeswoman. “All the products that were affected have been identified and our relevant customers informed.”
The processor undertook a full risk assessment and spoke to the FSA to ensure all requirements were being followed, she said, adding Dairy Crest was “confident that no other products have been affected in any way”.
“Having identified the root cause of this issue, corrective actions have been put in place to prevent any future occurrence and additional sampling has been undertaken to ensure all product manufactured is of the correct standard and specification,” she said.
