Morrisons is reintroducing a ban on plastic bags for online deliveries and click & collect orders.
The supermarket has told customers bags will no longer be used for any products picked in store for deliveries or click & collect orders from 1 April.
It said the move would save 98 million plastic bags from being used by Morrisons every year.
Certain products such as raw meat and fish will still be bagged, and Morrisons said it would provide additional wrapping for products such as bleach.
Morrisons introduced bagless deliveries in 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic as part of its pledge to reduce plastic usage, but was forced to reintroduce them because of safety fears and to prioritise speed of deliveries during the pandemic.
In September the government reintroduced charges for plastic bags used in deliveries, after a temporary lifting of the ban, which has led to supermarkets receiving criticism over plastic pollution and costs.
“From 1 April all of our picked-in-store online deliveries and click & collect operations will go back to bagless. Our delivery drivers will bring customers’ shopping in totes to their doorstep, with customers receiving extra time to unpack their shopping into their household,” a Morrisons spokeswoman said.
