Morrisons is set to add prepared hot sandwiches, barbecue food and a 'create your own pizza' offer to its Market Street stores next year.
The retailer is also planning to revamp its fish offer and introduce a new ready meals range in April.
The 'create your own pizza' service is to be rolled out in July, along with a barbecue range and a sandwich packaging revamp, while hot sandwiches are expected to be available from September.
The plans were presented to analysts by Eleanor Scott, Morrisons head of new product development, at a recent investor meeting. She also revealed that ideas for Christmas 2010 include indulgent treats, sharing foods and cup cakes.
One analyst claimed the plans are an attempt to convince investors that Morrisons remains a retailer with plenty of scope for growth in food.
"Morrisons is trying to demonstrate that there's a lot going on within its business. There is a level of concern among the investment community that it has come as far as it can."
He added that Market Street is a central part of Morrisons and has been "pivotal to its fortunes".
"Tweaking the offer is the right thing to do to gain extra revenue with profit," he said.
Morrisons previously offered a 'create your own pizza' service 15 years ago. Tesco is also trialling a similar pizza service at three of its stores.
