Its site in St Clears, Carmarthenshire won Forecourt Trader of the Year

Motor Fuel Group’s service station in St Clears, Carmarthenshire, picked up the top prize at the Forecourt Trader Awards last week.

The site, located on the A40 between the M4 and south west Wales, was hailed for its EV charging and valeting forecourt proposition, as well its “outstanding retail offer and attractive landscaping”.

Its “outstanding job” of becoming a community hub was highlighted by judges as well, just one year after opening.

The site was also awarded the winner in the West Country and Wales category for its high-volume fuel sales.

“It is a fitting showcase for MFG’s growing presence in the forecourt market and a statement of the UK’s biggest independent operator’s ambitions to set standards that others will follow,” said Forecourt Trader editor Juliet Morrison.

MFG, which operates more than 1,200 forecourts, also won best in region awards for its sites in Eastbourne, Faversham and Musselburgh.

A further 24 awards were presented to victorious retailers at the event, which was supported by Booker Retail Partners as principal sponsor and presented by TV presenter Ben Shephard in front of 720 guests at London’s Westminster Park Plaza hotel.

These included Tom Highland, MD of Highland Group, who won the Special Recognition Award for being the “one to watch” among an emerging generation of forecourt entrepreneurs.

Gridserve forecourt at London Gatwick was awarded Best Alternative Fuels Outlet, thanks to its combination of 30 electric charging bays with a facility that includes an all-automated Little Fresh convenience store, Costa café, and lounge.

Spar Parkfoot in West Malling, Kent, meanwhile, won Best Customer Service, while Brize Norton Service Station in Carterton, Oxfordshire, took home the accolade for Best Valeting.

Best Forecourt Loo was awarded to Essar Lea Gate Service Station in Preston for toilets that were “fit for royalty”. The facilities – men’s, women’s and a separate room with wheelchair access and baby changing equipment – were “modern and scrupulously clean”.
