Moy Park has secured three major partnerships as it looks to improve its sustainability and fuel efficiency.
The poultry producer has partnered with renewable energy firms Land Energy and Cofely and fund manager SDCL, backed by the UK Green Investment Bank, to install 86 biomass boilers across the company’s farm base by 2015.
The new boilers will replace the current LPG fuel with sustainably-sourced wood pellets, a move Moy Park said would reduce its emissions by 18,500 tonnes of CO2 annually. “Biomass not only ensures our farms are more sustainable, but also delivers additional welfare benefits for the birds through enhanced environmental conditions on farm,” said Moy Park UK and Ireland director Alan Gibson.
Moy Park owner Marfrig this week announced plans to float the business in 2015, market conditions permitting.
