Moy Park has converted one of its test kitchens into a ‘meals on wheels’ production line in a bid to help vulnerable people during the coronavirus outbreak.

The NPD kitchen at the poultry giant’s Craigavon site in Northern Ireland is now creating 1,000 meals a week for community group The Resource Centre Derry, which it came across through FareShare.

Fellow County Armagh businesses, including Kerry Foods, Wilson’s Country, The Flavour Works, Irwin’s Bakery and Daily Fresh, are supplying ingredients for the scheme.

“RCD provides invaluable help to the local community and has seen demand for its food services skyrocket beyond their capacity,” said Aaron Dixon, head of culinary at Moy Park.

“With incredibly generous contributions from food and packaging companies in the area, we’re delighted to prepare and donate these meals to help RCD reach those people most in need of support.”

Moy Park has recently launched a recruitment drive due to increased demand since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. So far it has hired 400 temporary workers.

The news also comes as the Northern Ireland Food & Drink Association last week launched a social media campaign to highlight the work done by those in the sector under the hashtag #FoodHeroes.
