An online grocery delivery service to support struggling foodservice industry suppliers in London has launched.
My Food Shop enables customers to order a range of specialist, restaurant-standard produce normally destined for restaurants in the capital at supermarket prices.
The platform’s aim is to work with as many suppliers and producers as possible to support the industry, which has been devastated by the coronavirus pandemic, and prevent food waste.
Current produce available on My Food Shop includes fruit & vegetables grown in Kent, artisan baked goods, cuts of meat not typically available in supermarkets, supplied by premium butcher shop Turner & George, a range of wines selected by sommeliers, and locally brewed craft beers and spirits.
The service offers everyday essentials, such as bread, eggs and milk, as well as household brand names, such as Heinz and Hellmann’s, and face masks.
Customers can also buy products from a range of independent London foodservice operators, including Caravan Coffee, Mother Clucker and Black Lemon.
My Food Shop is founded by Nigel Draper, previously head of supplier management at Allied Bakeries, head of supply chain and procurement at Costa Coffee and senior procurement manager at Whitbread. He also set up foodservice procurement and sourcing business Sorsco in 2012.
Draper said there had been a surge in demand for a quality grocery delivery service, offering a full range of food and drink.
“We wanted to launch a service that brought together a wide range of local and quality products across all categories, and a service that feels very much like a traditional greengrocer or butcher, but brought to your door,” he added.
“We are working with some of London’s best-known producers and retailers, to expand our product offering and develop what we hope will be a business that can be sustained beyond lockdown. In the meantime, we are dedicated to supporting as many people as possible and helping them get home deliveries of fresh food and drink they value so much.”
The service is currently available to customers in London and the south east, but there are plans to expand into other cities across the UK in the coming weeks.
Shoppers must spend a minimum of £50, with delivery costs set at £4.50 and free for orders of £100 or more.
