Speculation is rife that Tesco could be planning to ditch the development of its ill-fated store at Gerrards Cross. It has axed the Jackson Civil Engineering team that was originally employed on the project, where the railway tunnel at the construction site collapsed in June last year.
Tesco has instead appointed engineering company Costain and a small number of sub-contractors to undertake a thorough review of the project. A spokesman for Tesco said that the future of the site depends entirely on the review, which he said could take up to three months.
Costain said it would carry out surveying and inspection work “to fully understand the details and implement the design in a way that restores public confidence in the safety of the project”.
