Macrae Edinburgh is to open a new seafood processing plant in Livingstone, Scotland, dedicated to Waitrose.
The Young's Seafood-owned company said its £10m factory in Starlaw Park would produce more than 100 product lines for Waitrose, including smoked salmon, fish pâtés, speciality canapés and shellfish. It will employ about 230 people and is due to be opened officially by Waitrose boss Steve Esom on 17 May.
Esom said: "We value our long term relations with Macrae and will be building on this partnership in the future, particularly as this new processing plant will allow it to expand its range even further."
So far, Waitrose has only two Scottish stores - both in Edinburgh - but Esom said Macrae would benefit from the retailer's planned expansion.
Roy Cunningham, Macrae Edinburgh managing director, said: "This facility is great news for the wider Young's business."
