Dalton Philips has issued another passionate defence of his track record as Morrisons boss.
The supermarket chief executive told The Sun it was “preposterous” to suggest Morrisons risked losing touch with lower-income shoppers.
“Saying the strategy is failing is a preposterous comment to make,” he told the newspaper.
“We had an incredible run last year – we were the best-performing supermarket. We still have more ‘buy’ recommendations from analysts than anyone else in the sector.”
He comments come after Sir Ken Morrison last month suggested the supermarket had lost its way strategically and should re-focus on providing low prices rather than invest in a perceived move upmarket.
