Marks and Spencer is being sued for 60m euros by French retail chain Galeries Lafayette, in a dispute following the UK firm's decision to pull out of France in 2001.
The Times said Galeries Lafayette is claiming compensation for having to fund a redundancy package that cost more than it had expected when it took over M&S' 18 stores and 1,500 staff in France. M&S is disputing the claim.
Trinidad-based conglomerate CL Financial, which tookover whisky distiller Burn Stewart in Scotland last year is reported to be in negotiations to buy the Islay-based Bunnahabhain distillery and the Black Bottle brand for about £10m from Edrington Group.
The Scotsman said the move forms part of CL’s plan to build a global drinks business after combining Burn Stewart with its ownership of Angostura, the rum and mixer company, and its 54% stake in Todhunter, a US rum producer.
