Pret a Manger has rowed back on the price of its new Club Pret subscription, knocking it down from £10 to £5 per month.
The chain was criticised for ending its free coffee subscription last September, which entitled subscribers to five free coffees per day as well as a 20% discount on food.
The chain replaced the scheme with a new set of Club Pret perks, accessible to existing subscribers for a £5 monthly fee for a limited time only.
It has now announced it will not increase the cost to £10 from the end of March as previously planned.
The new Club Pret gives subscribers 50% off up to five barista-made drinks a day, but no discounts on food compared to the previous scheme.
Under the previous scheme, Pret customers paid £30 per month, or £360 per year, for Club Pret perks.
Subscribers will pay £5 per month or £60 per year following the new cap, down from the £120 per year announced by Pret last September.
Pret UK&I managing director Clare Clough said at the time the new offer would “still be the best offer on the High street” and “a much more accessible” yearly price.
The new offer also sees the end of double pricing on food, which Clough said was something the chain “never got comfortable with”.
The new £5 price will be available to both new and existing Club Pret subscribers.
