Herdwick farmers will use the money to market meat

Producers of Herdwick lamb have been awarded £50,000 by The Prince’s Countryside Fund.

The funding was secured by Taste Cumbria and the Herdwick Breeders Association. It will be used to help Herdwick lamb farmers market produce to foodservice operators.

“Contracts sought will be those which offer Herdwick meat the highest-quality identity and offer farmers the biggest difference to their bottom line,” said Taste Cumbria.

Lakeland Herdwick lamb attained PDO protected food status from the EU earlier this year.
