A new grocery store opened this week by the Prince of Wales in Gloucestershire could be the first of many, a spokeswoman said.
The Highgrove store in Tetbury features 700 lines, about one fifth of which are food. The rest are a mixture of kitchenware, garden tools and soaps. The goods were previously available only to guests of Highgrove House and gardens.
The products are sourced directly from Highgrove Estate and the Duchy Home Farm, as well as other ethical and sustainable sources.
Highgrove's commercial director Christine Prescott said there was potential to roll out the concept as a chain. "The next step is to launch a website and we will definitely be exporting. But we would not rule out further shops," she said.
The Highgrove website will be fully operational in July. While it is unlikely to deliver the prince's organic produce to people's doors, other food ranges such as Duchy Originals, Highgrove-branded honey and preserves would be available while in season.
