Smart Strains, a four-strong range of probiotic supplements from the founder of Bio & Me, is poised to make its debut this week.
Created by nutritionist and gut health expert Dr Megan Rossi, who operates her practice under the brand name The Gut Health Doctor, the lineup comprises a variety of formats across For Your Immune System (rsp: £23.99/30 sachets), For When You’re On Antibiotics (rsp: £20.99/30 capsules), For Fussy Babies (rsp: £16.99/8ml) and For Your Vaginal Microbiome (rsp: £19.99/30 capsules).
Each dose provides between one billion and 20 billion live bacteria of various strains, including Lactobacillus rhamnosus.
Smart Strains will be available from tomorrow (19 February) via Tesco pharmacies, Amazon and the brand’s website.
“Consumers are looking for live bacteria solutions that are simple, reliable, and effective. That’s what led me to develop Smart Strains,” said Rossi, who founded granola brand Bio & Me in 2019.
The range of probiotic supplements had “been years in the making”, she added. It was designed to be “the much-needed solution to fill the gap between the latest cutting-edge science and the often-misleading products consumers encounter. This is about making live bacteria simple, reliable, and effective for everyone.
“Current brands on the market, even those that claim to be ‘condition-specific’, either throw too many strains in the mix – which then compete against each other – or don’t use the right strain for the condition,” said Rossi.
“Added to this, the majority of products available today are not backed by clinical trials. Surprisingly, many leading brands also include additives like emulsifiers and added sugars – even those targeted at babies and infants – which go against fundamental gut health principles.”
