Independent supermarket operator Proudfoot Group has raised tens of thousands of pounds to local causes though supplier Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity.
Its four stores, in Scarborough, have given more than £50,000 to almost 150 different charities in the local community.
It most recently gave £500 to Yorkshire Coast Sight Support towards new computers for local partially sighted people.
“We have been proudly supporting the Making a Difference Locally charity from the very beginning and are delighted to have donated this milestone amount,” said Valerie Aston, Proudfoot director.
MADL allowed the retailer to develop stronger relationships with good causes and the local community, and enabled it to support local charities and other groups that were in need of extra funding, she added.
“I have had the pleasure of seeing first-hand the difference our donations can make and am delighted that we have been able to support so many local causes with these funds.”
Proudfoot has been involved with MADL since the initiative’s launch 11 years ago.
Nisa’s registered charity raises funds in Nisa-affiliated stores from the sale of Heritage and Co-op own-label products, and via more than 900 collecting tins sited in shops. It has been supporting good causes since 2008 and has given more than £8.8m to more than 11,000 causes to date.
