Rapid grocer Zapp has partnered with Uber Eats to list its “curated catalogue” of about 2,000 SKUs on the food ordering platform.
Uber Eats users across central London will be able to order from Zapp stores on the app, with items picked and packed at Zapp dark stores for delivery “within as little as 20 minutes” by Uber Eats couriers.
The dark stores operate 24 hours a day, “making Zapp one of the only convenience retailers available on Uber Eats night and day”, the quick commerce player said.
Zapp described the partnership in mutually beneficial terms.
“The partnership expands the 24/7 convenience and premium selections available via Uber Eats while providing Zapp exposure to the existing Uber Eats customer base,” Zapp said.
Zapp said its range went “beyond everyday essentials”, with a growing premium selection from farm producer Daylesford, snacks maker Torres, luxury gift supplier Only Roses and beauty product business Bamford. Italian delicatessen Lina Stores, Cipriani and Palais Constance are also included.
“By partnering with Uber Eats, it’s great to be reaching even more Londoners as we further our mission to delight customers with things that make them happy, the moment they want it,” said Zapp chief commercial officer Ajay Lakhwani. “Whether it’s hosting spontaneous drinks, snacks from the sofa, getting everyday essentials or even last-minute gifts, customers can order Zapp on Uber Eats for delivery in minutes, 24/7.”
Uber Eats UK head of commerce Alex Troughton said: “We’re excited to partner with Zapp to offer round-the-clock convenience as one of the few 24/7 retailers on the platform.
“We know that more and more customers are using Uber Eats to order those ‘need it now’ items and will enjoy shopping Zapp’s curated and premium catalogue. Zapp brings something truly different to Uber Eats.”
The partnership comes just days after a similar deal was announced between Uber Eats and Zapp rapid rival Gopuff. As of last week, Uber Eats users are able to shop from Gopuff dark stores, for delivery either on-demand or scheduled later in the day. However, unlike with the Zapp deal, orders are fulfilled by Gopuff’s own delivery partners.
It is the first time Gopuff has worked with a food delivery app in the UK. It said it would give “even more customers access to the Gopuff experience” and “drive further growth for the brand”. The move follows a similar partnership between Gopuff and Uber Eats, struck in the US in May last year.
Also last week, rapid grocer Getir announced it was partnering with Just Eat across Europe to list its entire product range on the platform, with deliveries from its dark stores made by Getir couriers. The rollout began in Germany this week, with the UK to follow later this month.
