Safeway has posted a 44% leap in interim profit from its convenience store joint venture with fuel giant BP.
For the six months to October 11, Safeway said its share of the £6.9m partnership profit with BP would be £3.5m.
Total sales from the joint venture with BP were £227m.
Safeway said that 59 convenience stores were trading by the end of the first half, with a further two new openings planned during the second half.
