In the battle for supremacy in online grocery, Sainsbury's has a new weapon - free food. One shopper, temporarily incapacitated and forced to rely on home deliveries, received a few extras in the past few weeks. Besides amassing £30 worth of credit vouchers for three late deliveries (all of which arrived within five minutes of the slot), Sainsbury's also bestowed upon her 5kg of oranges and lemons, air freshener refills, extra tomatoes, new potatoes, trout, two packets of ham, organic beefburgers, premium bacon, fresh pasta, smoked mackerel and prosciutto. None of which she'd ordered. When she phoned the helpline, she was told that once delivered, the products could not be retrieved. Generous to a fault, literally.
