Foodservice provider Sodexo has partnered with Culinary Medicine UK to offer training on health and nutrition to doctors.
NHS England medical professionals will be able to access five modules centred on health in relation to eating.
The five modules include nutrition for healthcare workers, undernutrition and how to spot it, culinary skills, and improving communicating with patients about their dietary habits and changes.
The provider and project manager said it had launched the partnership to keep supporting its health and care industry customers, as well as kickstarting a national conversation.
In addition to the core modules, the partnership would give frontline workers including doctors and nurses a chance to take additional on-site training.
“Malnutrition affects up to 50% of hospital inpatients, leading to longer hospital stays and increased healthcare costs,” said Sodexo Health & Care marketing director Simon Lilley. “Nutrition is fundamental to patient-centred care, supporting physical recovery, mental health, and long-term disease prevention.
“Through our partnership with Culinary Medicine UK, we are empowering healthcare professionals with comprehensive nutrition education, which will enhance patient outcomes by equipping them with valuable tools to integrate nutrition into daily care routines and support their own wellbeing.
“We are opening this up to the whole market. Hospitals do not need to have Sodexo provide their patients’ food to be able to take advantage of this education programme.”
