Farmers seek new pastures
Livestock farmers in the Vale of Evesham suffering from poor returns could become a new breed of soft fruit growers.
A combination of potential EU regional development funding and encouragement from Advanced Marketing Services, which already supplies major multiples with soft fruit, has led to an 11 strong growers group being set up.
It hopes to produce 200 tonnes of fruit by the end of the year and anticipates this quantity doubling next season.
Martin Seymour, managing director of AMS, says the secret of success will be to sell everything on a cost plus basis.
