Somerfield has opened a new £1.1m Market Fresh store in Putney, the seventh to be built in London.
Another, in Oxford, will join the growing portfolio on Wednesday (May 25), only its second Market Fresh store outside the capital, while another store is set to start trading under the fascia in Aberdeen in June. Somerfield’s first Market Fresh outside London opened in Broadstone in Poole, Dorset, in March.
Fifty new jobs have been created at the Putney site and the retailer plans to roll out a further 50 Market Fresh formats by next year.
The new store, with a curved glass frontage, is intended to have a bistro-style feel, while contemporary features include fresh juice machines, olive oil dispensers, and freshly ground coffee.
An extensive delicatessen, bakery, rotisserie, and a hot food to go section providing takeaway meals throughout the day, are also on offer.
