Somerfield is rolling out its business delivery service to 300 stores nationwide after the successful trial in 38 stores across Scotland that began in May.

The service is designed to cut bills and shopping time for businesses such as bed & breakfasts, rest homes and schools seeking to top up their larders.

Representatives from these businesses can either fill in an order form instore and hand it to the store manager or register online at www.somerfield.co.uk. Somerfield can then deliver fresh, ambient and chilled and frozen groceries to the companies on the same day between 10am and 8pm using its 350 home delivery vehicles.

Payment for orders is made using the Somerfield Business Account Card, which also doubles up as a Saver Card offering businesses regular promotions. The card processes users’ transactions automatically once the account has been set up and gives customers 14 days interest free credit.

The service is free provided that the order costs more than £25. Business development controller Hans Sprenkel said: “As a community based retailer, Somerfield recognises the need to support local businesses, so we developed our business delivery service to meet the needs of small operators. To date we have more than 50 business customers who are regularly using the service in Scotland. We are confident that there are a substantial number of businesses across the UK who will benefit from this scheme.

“Our aim is to support other local businesses by providing a cost effective and time saving service. Which will allow them to focus on their customers - and I believe we will also save them money.”
