The Bristol-based wholesaler moved to larger premises in March to accommodate its rapid growth

Spanish fine foods importer and wholesaler Mevalco more than doubled its sales last year to £3m and is on track to rack up turnover of £5m in 2019.

The Bristol-based wholesaler, which supplies 600 farm shops, delicatessens, independents and multiples, moved to larger premises in March to accommodate its rapid growth, driven by the increase in demand for its premium products.

The new 7,500 sq ft warehouse is three times the size of the original site, which joint-MD Justin Slawson said was a key factor in its planned launch of a new product range next month.

A customer showroom and new kitchens are due to be completed in the autumn, allowing customers to see, taste and work with many of Mevalco’s products and ingredients.

“We are incredibly excited about the opportunity this move gives us to increase our range, our staffing resources and showcase our products in the most professional way to our customers, alongside having more space to build on our offer with new, fresh product ranges we are planning for introduction in the future,” he said.

“The investment into our new site is very much part of our phased fast track growth strategy which has been driven by the increased demand for super premium world products that we offer. On a practical level, it will provide us with a much larger area for storage, and we are also looking forward to working alongside our chefs in our new, state of the art, development kitchen.”

Mevalco’s sales were £3m for the year to 31 December 2018, up 130% on the previous year.
