Film strips containing doses of vitamins, caffeine and even travel sickness medicines could be on sale by the end of the year.
The technology, pioneered by
products such as Wrigley’s Xtra Thin Ice and Listerine Actives, is set to jump into new categories, says Korean manufacturer KBP.
The company said it was talking with several major retail and manufacturing partners to take the strips beyond their current remit.
Projects include loading the soluble strips with vitamins as an alternative to popping pills and offering a caffeine hit product to rival energy drinks.
Alasdair McIntyre, development director for KBP Europe, said: “The technology is already there for us to do this.
“Products like caffeine strips deliver a quicker boost than drinks because of the way they are taken. Our research also suggests that vitamin strips would add incremental value to the category.”
