Surya Foods has bolstered its Japanese food brand Akira with the addition of 18 ambient SKUs.
The new products include a quartet of ramen bowls, a trio of broths, three bubble and sushi and onigiri meal kits.
A selection of snacks – including coated peanuts and roasted edamame – and seasonings have also joined the lineup.
All 18 products have launched exclusively into over 550 Tesco stores nationwide, with prices starting at £1.30.
They join Akira’s portfolio of ambient and frozen goods, spanning from sushi rice to frozen gyoza.
“It is clear Japanese cuisine has become a much-loved addition to the British menu and we are pleased to have created a range that is all about demystifying the cooking process at home and offering a wide range of products that are simple to prepare,” said Surya Foods group CEO Harry Dulai.
Surya Foods debuted Akira in 2016, offering a range of traditional-style sushi rice to independent retailers.
It expanded its offering into frozen snacks in February 2024, launching a range of gyoza, yakitori and bao buns into Asda and Morrisons, following a “major refresh” of the brand.
The Grocer yesterday reported the family-owned business had been courting potential buyers after hiring Grant Thornton to explore strategic options.
Surya Foods CEO Harry Dulai said: ”This is an exploratory discussion for planning the future growth of our business.”
