Halal meat supplier Tahira Foods is launching a new range of frozen halal products into Asda to target the UK’s Turkish community.
The four-strong range includes the Adana kebab, which is intended for barbecues, light lunches or evening meals. It also features Turkish pizza, mini kebabs and chicken meatballs. The range is designed to fill a market gap for traditional Turkish products.
The range will be trialled from September in 11 Asda stores in areas popular with Turkish consumers.
“There are plenty of products for Indian, Pakistani and Middle Eastern customers, but no real concentrated range for the Turkish market, so we saw a gap in the market,” said Jack Patel, supermarket account manager.
The range went into ethnic stores last week, but Asda is the first multiple to list it. Tahira also supplies frozen, chilled and ambient products to Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.
