As The Grocer went to press, Tayto and United Biscuits were tipped as the most likely victors in the bidding for Golden Wonder’s crisps business.
Sources said CTO Holdings, part of Northern Ireland’s Tayto, which bought Golden Wonder’s Corby plant last month, was frontrunner for the Scunthorpe site. UB was tipped to secure a deal for Nik Naks and Wheat Crunchies under its KP arm.
A third bidder was rumoured to be a venture capitalist, while a team of three former Golden Wonder bosses was understood to be out of the running.
