Courier business Stuart – which serves as delivery partner for Tesco and Co-op’s one-hour delivery offerings – has appointed John Gillan as its UK general manager.
Gillan has previously worked at Diageo and Premier Foods, and joins the company from buy now, pay later fintech firm Laybuy, where he was general manager for the UK and Europe.
Stuart said Gillan would be responsible for overseeing the company’s “diversification strategy” across food, grocery and retail.
His remit covers operations, commercial, and deliveries from Stuart’s UK hubs as well as project management functions. Gillan – who spent 10 years working at Google expanding its UK retail service – will report directly to Stuart CEO Damien Bon.
“Working in partnership with organisations to deliver the very best customer experience has been a constant in my career,” Gillan said. “Adopting a creative approach while harnessing technology goes to the very heart of Stuart’s unique offering, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work for a company committed to revolutionising the future of urban logistics in a sustainable way.”
Gillan replaces Brendan Hamill, who had been serving as general manager in the UK as an interim. The role had been advertised since March last year.
Hamill is staying at the company, in the role of vice president go to market & strategic initiatives.
“Gillan has a strong track record of team leadership and creative thinking, while promoting growth for businesses,” said Bon.
“When we set out in 2015, our vision was to bring a fresh and sustainable approach to last-mile delivery in urban areas. Gillan’s expertise across the fmcg and technology spaces will only serve to bolster this, ensuring that we are able to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
