Tesco is to relaunch digital wallet PayQwiq under a new name: Tesco Pay+.
Launched in 2015, the digital wallet app allows customers to pay for shopping on their smartphones while collecting Clubcard points.
Mark Loch, Tesco digital wallets and group payments strategy director, said the new name would be part of further changes to make the service more useful to customers.
Tesco rolled out PayQwiq to every store in the UK in January after what it claimed was a positive reaction from customers involved in trials. It is understood that the hard-to-fathom name has not landed well with some consumers.
The app allows customers using either Android and iOS smartphones to pay and collect Clubcard points with one scan of their phone, up to a single transaction limit of £250.
Tesco said it would update customers about further improvement to the functionality of the app later this month, alongside the name change.
“We are really excited to be telling customers today that their digital wallet will soon be changing its name to Tesco Pay+,” said Loch.
“The journey of our digital wallet has been an exciting one and we’ve learned a great deal about our customers and how they shop in that time. We believe that Tesco Pay+ is going to help the customer journey, offering greater little helps, and we’re looking forward to revealing more in a few weeks’ time.”
