Tesco is bringing together egg, bacon and sausage makers for a seven-week fundraising campaign in support of the Help for Heroes charity this summer.
The campaign, which kicks off on 26 June, involves brands that already have close links to the armed forces: Noble Foods' Eggs for Soldiers brand; Red Lion Foods bacon; and sausages from A Turner & Sons, a family butcher from Hampshire with a longstanding connection to the military.
Tesco will run special promotional offers on the three products, with a percentage of each purchase price going to Help for Heroes.
Eggs for Soldiers, which was launched by Noble Foods earlier this year specifically to raise money for Help for Heroes and which already generates 15p for charity for every pack sold, will be on a 'two for £3' offer for one week starting 26 June.
This will be followed by a three-week 'save a third' promotion on £3 packs of Red Lion Foods bacon, starting on 18 July. Red Lion Foods, launched in May 2010, donates 100% of its post-tax profits to armed forces charities such as Help for Heroes.
Finally, there will a three-week 'two for £5' deal on sausages from A Turner & Sons, starting on 22 August, with 5p per pack sold going to charity.
Tesco had initially planned to run the event over one week, promoting all three products at the same time, but changed its plans after deciding that running one big campaign across chilled and ambient products would be too difficult.
A spokesman said the retailer would use in-store signage and a dedicated stand to highlight the products to shoppers during the seven weeks of the campaign. No specific fundraising target had been set, but Tesco hoped that running the campaign over seven weeks would give consumers plenty of opportunity to buy the products and maximise donations, he added.
