Tesco has given its wine aisles a revamp.
The retailer has added some 40 new SKUs this week, data reveals, with new listings for the likes of Freixenet, Miraval, and Concha y Toro’s Casillero del Diablo ‘dark red’ spin-off, simply called Diablo.
Other winners include Campo Viejo’s Rosé, and Yellow Tail’s Pure Bright Pinot Grigio [Edge by Ascential 52 w/e 17 September 2019].
A spokeswoman for Freixenet Copestick said the supplier was “delighted” to see its new miniature bottles launch into the retailer.
At the same time, some mainstream brands have been hit with delistings.
Tesco has cut its range of Hardys SKUs, reducing the Accolade Wines’ brand’s presence from 17 to 12 SKUs, for instance. It has also binned Concha y Toro’s Jacked rosé fruit wine and Adorada wines, as well as several own-label SKUs.
A spokesman for Tesco said it was “always looking at the best way to offer choice for our customers”.
“The range includes more premium brands and new vintages within our own label range,” he added.
The move takes Tesco’s range slightly more upmarket: the average price of the delisted SKUs was £8.06, while the average price of wines to gain listings was £9.03.
