Tesco has opened its first store dedicated to non-food under the Home Plus format.
The 30,000 sq ft site is in Denton, east Manchester, in the newly built Crown Point Northern Retail park, off the M67.
It is on two floors - the ground floor stocks categories such as newspapers and magazines, car care and DIY. Other categories covered include kitchenware and toys.
A total of 9,000 sq ft on the upper level is dedicated to selling clothing, incorporating the retailer’s Florence & Fred and Cherokee labels, plus accessories such as jewellery. Tesco said it represented its largest clothing offer in a store.
The remaining 3,000 sq ft on the first floor are devoted to audiovisual and electrical goods. There is also a digital section selling items such as digital cameras and iPods. A CD, DVD, games and video area includes built-in consoles to demonstrate films and games.
“The range includes the newest products and the latest technology in home entertainment,” said a spokeswoman. Features include “CD/DVD preview stations, interactive gaming demonstration pods and an audio visual demonstration area where you can sit and experience the latest in the home theatre market”. The area also includes computer hardware and software.
Aisles are 2.3m wide and 2m high and are colour coded and numbered for ease of navigation. There are five tills upstairs and seven downstairs, all chip & pin enabled.
