Tesco is set to merge its grocery and general merchandise click & collect services so customers can collect everything in one trip.
The move, which follows successful trials at 10 stores, is intended to make click & collect simpler for customers.
The first store to trial a combined click & collect pod was the Lincoln Extra in 2014, and the initiative has been extended to stores in Horsham, Swansea and Warrington. The Grocer understands other stores across the country will now be following suit.
The rollout comes amid a rationalisation of Tesco’s GM services. Last summer, Tesco announced the closure of separate GM service desks in stores - bringing together tobacco and lottery kiosks - alongside other plans such as slashing the number of 24-hour stores and moving to twilight replenishment.
A spokesman said changes had been made to click & collect pods to house more orders, and declined to comment on whether the plans would be rolled out further. “These changes means that shoppers will be able to collect their Tesco Direct orders in the same location as their grocery orders.”
