Film and TV fans will now be able stream content from Tesco’s Blinkbox service on their PlayStation 3 consoles.
Tesco’s video-streaming platform launched a Sony PlayStation 3 app today, tapping a potential audience of six million UK homes with PS3 consoles.
Blinkbox, which claims to have ten times as many new blockbuster films as rivals Netflix and Lovefilm Instant, is already available via PCs, Macs, iPads and the Xbox 360. It does not require a subscription and rental prices start from 99p, with shoppers earning one Tesco Clubcard point for every £1 spent. It currently has one million users.
“Teaming up with PS3 means we can bring the latest blockbuster movies and quality TV series to even more homes in the UK,” said Blinkbox CEO and Tesco group digital officer Michael Comish. “The app further demonstrates our commitment to delivering stellar entertainment to as many people as possible, on a wide variety of devices.”
In September, Tesco launched its biggest-ever advertising campaign for Blinkbox, encompassing in-store marketing and TV spots.
