Regional lender The Cumberland has expanded its services to cover businesses in the food and drink sector.
It means that wholesalers, food manufacturers and independent retailers based across the north of England and in Scotland will be able to get access to the building society’s financial services for the first time.
The Carlisle-headquartered building society was founded in 1850, and serves 160,000 customers across Yorkshire, north east and north west England, as well as Scotland. It already supports a range of hospitality businesses with mortgages, business accounts and other lending services.
The Cumberland offers what it calls a “kinder banking” service, whereby each account holder is partnered with a dedicated relationship manager to provide more tailored support.
“At The Cumberland we believe in responsible banking that puts people first,” said Scott McKerracher, The Cumberland head of commercial.
“This approach has served us well for more than 20 years and so it’s great that we can now roll this out to food and drink retailers, wholesalers, processors and manufacturers.”
Expanding its support to the food and drink sector was “natural progression” for The Cumberland, McKerracher said, which would offer businesses ”not just the financial services they need, but also a human touch which will help guide them.
“We’re incredibly excited to extend our offering to the food and drink sector and we look forward to working with organisations within them.”
