Only new, reformulated or repackaged own-label products will be able to enter the new awards

The Grocer’s Own Label Awards is relaunching with an exclusive focus on own-label innovation.

Last year’s competition was cancelled due to the pandemic, but new criteria and a new judging methodology will be introduced as part of a relaunch of the awards scheme, with only new, reformulated or repackaged own-label products able to enter.

“As the name suggests, The Grocer’s New Own Label Awards puts the focus fairly and squarely on retailer efforts to respond to the shopper’s changing needs through own-brand NPD,” said Adam Leyland, The Grocer’s editor-in-chief.

“Whether it’s shopper concerns over value, health, sustainability, or their need for convenience or culinary inspiration and excitement, we want the new awards programme to shine a light on the fantastic work that grocery retailers, wholesalers and suppliers – of all shapes and sizes – are doing in response to the Covid landscape.”

Entries to the food and drink awards scheme will be blind tasted by panels of expert judges based on 10 criteria, with winners receiving Gold, Silver and Bronze medals on an accreditation basis rather than by category, though a limited number of special category awards will also be announced.

Entries for Christmas festive lines will also be included in the judging, with the awards to be announced at a virtual ceremony to be hosted on Friday 15 October on thegrocer.co.uk in time for winners to celebrate and promote their success in time for the all-important festive season.

The deadline for entries is Monday 28 June. Products must have launched over an 18-month period and be on sale by 15 October.
