Peter Thornton, managing director of Dairy Crest Spreads, will become an executive managing director of Dairy Crest next month.
Chairman Simon Oliver said: "I am delighted to welcome Peter to the board. He will oversee our spreads and liquid products businesses, alongside Mark Allen [also executive MD], appointed to the board last July. He will add our household business to his responsibility for cheese."
Thornton has been md of Dairy Crest Spreads since September 2000. During his time he achieved strong growth for Dairy Crest's Clover spread and Frijj milkshakes and was heavily involved in the acquisition of the St Ivel Spreads business.
He joined the company in 1993 and held a range of commercial roles, including group sales director for three years.
Dairy Crest executive MD Chris Roberts is leaving the company in May after successfully completing the integration of Unigate's dairy and cheese businesses, acquired by Dairy Crest in July 2000.
