First there was the microwavable fish finger, now shoppers can look forward to a beef burger that can be heated in a toaster.
German meat giant Tonnies, which brought a range of savoury 'pop tarts' to the UK last year, is launching Tillman's Toast Me! Beef Burgers, which can be put into the toaster straight from the freezer.
The burgers, which can be heated up on the highest toaster setting, are rolling into about 700 Tescos in May at an rsp of £1.39-£1.59 for a 140g pack of two.
No fat would be able to escape from the toasted burgers thanks to Tillman's patented production processes, the company claimed.
"The Toast Me! Beef Burger is an incredibly innovative product there's nothing else like it out there at the moment," said Tillman's UK director Jon Gymer.
The company revealed it was also accelerating its foray into the British meat market with the launch of five new frozen meat snacks and five additional variants to its line of Toast Me! products.
The company's new Snack Me! range (£1.39 for a 150g pack) comprises Mini Schnitzel (made from pork loin), Mini Pork Meatballs filled with sweet and sour sauce, Mini Beef Kebabs, Mini Chicken Meatballs filled with curry sauce and Mini Pork Riblets. The products are already fully cooked and can be heated from frozen in the microwave in two minutes. Gymer said the range was aimed at shoppers looking for convenient frozen snacks that did not fall into the 'party food' category.
The Toast Me! range, which currently comprises a chicken and a bacon and egg variant, is being ramped up with five new variants cheese & ham, chicken curry, chilli chicken, vegetable and hash brown. All variants as well as the Snack Me! range will be listed in Tesco.
Gymer said Toast Me! had performed strongly since launching in the UK last autumn, and the company's new listings showed that Tillman's offered products that "tick all the right boxes for consumers".
