Topps is giving Doctor Who fans the chance to find a piece of the Timelord’s costume in packs of an upcoming trading card collection.
The Doctor Who Alien Attax 50th Anniversary Edition, which hits shelves on 17 October, will feature rare cards that contain actual pieces of seven costumes worn on the TV show - including two worn by the Doctor himself.
Describing the release as one of its key launches of the year, Topps said the new collection would also include 50 ‘timeless moment’ cards from the 50-year history of the show, alongside cards featuring all eleven incarnations of the doctor, and his companions.
News of the launch comes in the week the BBC revealed that Oscar-winning actor Peter Capaldi - best known as foul-mouthed Malcolm Tucker in comedy show The Thick Of It - will become the 12th Doctor from this Christmas.
Topps has also unveiled details of further collectible card launches planned for the back-to-school season. This includes the Star Wars Force Attax trading card game, which will be sold in starter packs (rsp: £4.99) and as nine-card packs (rsp: £1), from later this month.
The company is launching a new series of the Moshi Monsters Mash-Up trading card game on 5 September, and cards based on the Skylanders video game expansion Swap Force on 16 September.
Topps’ football trading card game Match Attax is also being expanded with 2013-14 Premier League and Scottish Premier League editions. A deluxe starter pack (rsp: £5.99) is being added to the brand for the first time, alongside standard starter packs (rsp: £2.99) and packs of 10 cards (rsp: £1).
The set of 440 Premier League cards launches on 26 September, and the Scottish Premier League on 10 October.
