Functional drink brand Tranquini has partnered with food and beverage distributor RH Amar to create a new UK grocery category of ‘relaxation drinks’.
Founded by Ahmed Elafifi, a former senior executive at Coca-Cola and Red Bull, Tranquini offers to “reduce stress and relieve anxiety without causing drowsiness” through ingredients such as green tea extract, chamomile, lavender, ginger and lemon balm.
Launched overseas last year and already on sale in 28 other countries, the range of 250ml cans (rsp: £1.29) is available now in five flavours: Original, Jade, Jasper, Amber and the sugar-free Zero, which contains stevia and other natural sweeteners.
The UK was very important market for the brand, claimed Elafifi. “We’re confident Tranquini will establish a new category of relaxation drinks in the UK beverage market, given the nation’s focus on a balanced and positive lifestyle,” he said, adding that RH Amar had been chosen as distribution partner because of its “genuine passion for our products”.
Sam Higgins, senior brand manager at RH Amar, said there were “strong signs” the UK functional drinks category was set for “a relaxing alternative as consumers look for something to take the edge off their day without turning to alcohol”.
