United Biscuits UK is finally ironing out supply problems on its own-label and McVitie’s branded biscuits following the flood that devastated its Carlisle factory in January.
A spokeswoman said: “We have restored 80% of production, or eight lines, and many of the biscuits are as freely available to customers as they were before the flood. All employees are now back at work at the site.”
The company would not be drawn on how long it would take for the rest of production to come back on line.
“Repairs are continuing and we’re in constant communication with retailers to update them.”
The Grocer previously revealed how biscuit sales at The Co-operative Group and Somerfield, among others, were being hit by the plant going off line. They said they were forced to go to rival manufacturers such as Fox’s and Burton’s Foods for alternative products. However, both retailers confirmed that the problems were being resolved.
UBUK said it had achieved its objective of restoring full production of Bourbon biscuits, Carr’s Table Water biscuits, Rich Tea Fingers and Ginger Nuts.
